It was the first organization in the world to develop standards for natural and organic cosmetics. ECOCERT promotes the use of ingredients from renewable sources and organic farming, as well as the use of production and manufacturing processes that are environmentally friendly and safe for human health. To obtain the certificate, products must meet the high requirements of the ECOCERT standard. The composition of the products must contain at least 95% ingredients of natural origin, and a minimum of 5% to 10% ingredients from organic farming.

The alcohol used in Jane Iredale Moisturizing Waters is 100% organic and comes from sugar cane. The alcohol content is minimal - about 0.025%, but it is an important function of the spray, helping to disperse and protect the organic extracts in the water formula. The small amount of alcohol found in moisturizing waters does not irritate or dry out the skin, which may happen with products containing alcohol obtained from wheat or grain.
